The Richmond Community Garden Compost Project works with the community to:
divert as much material as we can from the waste stream
turn that material into rich compost
use that compost to grow more food and plants here at the garden
Join the Compost Crew on the first Thursday of every month, 10 AM, at Richmond Community Garden Āko Learning Area.
Come and help turn the piles, learn how good compost is made, and see where your food scraps end up. No experience needed, and everyone’s welcome.

Impact
Composting your food scraps keeps them out of landfill, where they break down and release methane. Instead, they go back to Papatūānuku as rich compost that feeds the soil and grows more kai.
It’s a simple, everyday way to practice kaitiakitanga, caring for the whenua so it can keep caring for us and for the generations to come.
