Richmond Community Gardens, The Riverlution Collective and The Green Lab have all been hit hard by a spate of coordinated theft. In the week before Christmas, Christchurch had a month’s worth of rain in two days. Under the cover of darkness and downpour, thieves used power tools to cut through steel bolts and into lock boxes, stealing thousands of dollars worth of tools which are used by our organisations and volunteers to construct community projects.
We are small organisations that do a lot of mahi with the little funding we have. We are seeking the community’s help to fundraise for additional security measures and to go toward replacements tools (we will either use the funds raised for our insurance excesses or for tool replacement).
Please share widely. In line with our kaupapa, we would also accept safe, working pre-loved tools.
