Riverlution Precious Plastic
Riverlution Precious Plastic is a community-led social enterprise based at the Riverlution Eco Hub, within the Riverlution Eco Park. Our mission is to reduce plastic waste by collecting small plastic items — such as lids, tops, and anything smaller than a yoghurt pottle — made from Number 2 plastic (HDPE), and transforming them into beautiful, garden-themed products.
In our first year, we aim to produce recycled plant pots, with a new garden-themed product added each year as the enterprise grows.
We are currently seeking funding to support our initial setup and provide wages for the first two years, giving the project time to become fully self-sustaining.
For any other caps and lids (numbers other than #2), please use the Caps and Lids Recall Scheme bin located next to our drop-off station — these are sent to Australia for recycling.
For all other items, please refer to our Community Drop-Off Project page

In our first year, we plan to produce recycled plant pots, with a new garden-themed item introduced each year as the enterprise grows. We are currently seeking funding to support setup costs and two years of wages, providing the foundation needed to become a self-sustaining social enterprise.
Our goal is to reduce plastic waste through community involvement, education, and creative upcycling — empowering individuals to make sustainable, informed choices. This vision aligns closely with the Riverlution and Richmond Community Garden Impact Strategy.
To make lid and top recycling more accessible, we’ve established collection points across Christchurch, with plans to expand further. Locations of current drop-off stations can be found in the map below.
All collected plastic will be shredded and remade into garden products on-site, using our dedicated container workspace. By processing plastic locally, we support a circular economy while eliminating the emissions and costs of transporting waste elsewhere — creating a practical, community-powered solution to plastic pollution.
✅ Save your caps and lids instead of throwing them away.
♻️ Check the recycling number on each item – we’re collecting plastics marked with #2 (HDPE) and #5 (PP).
📦 Drop off #2 and #5 lids or plastic smaller than a yogurt pottle at any of our collection sites listed here. At the site, please separate them by plastic type and colour.
🌏 Other plastic types (caps & lids) can still be dropped off at the Riverlution Eco Hub – we’ll ensure they’re sent to Australia for appropriate recycling.
💚 Feel great knowing you’ve helped reduce plastic waste and support a local circular economy initiative!
